Joe Rumschlag
Men's Track and Field - Field Events (4/30/05): Wittenberg senior Joe Rumschlag (Maumee, OH/Toledo Christian) won the long jump, triple jump and decathlon at the NCAC Outdoor Championship meet. He was named Field Events Athlete of the Year after earning the award at the indoor championships in March. Andy Karcher
Men's Track and Field - Field Events (4/18/05): Wittenberg sophomore Andy Karcher (Oceloa, OH/Bucyrus Wynford) finished third in the hammer throw (139 feet, 4 inches) at the All-Ohio Championships. Click here for the complete list of 2005 NCAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.
Andrew Wellman
Baseball (4/18/05): Wittenberg sophomore Andrew Wellman (Huntington, WV/Huntington) hit .650 (13-for-20) with 11 RBI and seven runs scored to help the Tigers to a 6-0 week. His totals included six doubles, two triples and three walks. He leads the Tigers with a .550 (22-for-40) batting average and a .640 on-base percentage. Joe Rumschlag
Men's Track and Field - Field Events (4/11/05): Wittenberg senior Joe Rumschlag (Maumee, OH/Toledo Christian) won the long jump at the Rhodes Hexagonal Meet. His winning jump of 23-2.5 met the NCAA provisional standard. Rumschlag also finished second in the triple jump (42-11.5) and sixth in the javelin (139-0). Jenny Burns
Women's Lacrosse (4/4/05): Wittenberg senior Jenny Burns (Dublin, OH/Coffman) scored eight goals and added three assists as the Tigers split a pair of non conference games last week. She notched six points on two goals and four assists in a defeat of Notre Dame (OH), then added four goals and an assist in a loss to St. Vincent. Allison Walker
Women's Track and Field - Field Events (3/29/05): Wittenberg freshman Allison Walker (Columbus, OH/Academy) finished second in the javelin (77 feet, 9 inches), fourth in the shot put (32 feet, 8 1/4 inches), fifth in the discus (98 feet, 8 inches) and eighth in the hammer (80 feet, 2 inches) at the Jerry England Invitational at the University of Indianapolis. Nicole Bailey
Women's Track and Field - Sprinter/Hurdler (3/29/05): Wittenberg freshman Nicole Bailey (Cincinnati, OH/Summit Country Day) was seventh in the 100 meters (13.51) at the University of Cincinnati Early Bird Relays. Taryn Hensel
Softball (3/29/05): Wittenberg freshman Taryn Hensel (Marion, OH/Ridgedale) went the distance for her first collegiate win in a 8-2 decision over Wilmington. She allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks in seven innings pitched. Hensel had a perfect game going into the bottom of the fifth. Travis Moore
Men's Lacrosse (3/29/05): Wittenberg sophomore Travis Moore (Columbus, OH/Wellington) scored four times to lead the Tigers to a 13-9 victory over Oberlin. Click here for the complete list of 2005 NCAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week.
Daniel Russ
Men's Basketball (2/28/05): Wittenberg junior Daniel Russ (Louisville, KY/Trinity), a 6-9 post, totalled 42 points and 25 rebounds in three games to lead the Tiger squad to their fifth NCAC Tournament title. He also combined for seven assists, six blocks and six steals on his way to being named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Gregg Carter
Men's Indoor Track and Field - Sprints/Hurdles (2/13/05): Wittenberg junior Gregg Carter (Wellsville, OH/Wellsville) placed second in the 200 meters (23.21) at the Capital Purple & White Invitational. Nicole Bailey
Women's Indoor Track and Field - Sprints/Hurdles (1/23/05): Bailey (Cincinnati, OH/Summit Country Day) finished third in the 55 meters (7.58) and 200 meters (27.88) at the Marietta Open. Click here for the complete list of 2005 NCAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.
Daniel Russ
Men's Basketball (1/16/05): Russ, a 6-9, junior post, helped the Tigers knock off the two teams tied for first in the North Coast last week, both of whom had been undefeated in league play. He scored 16 points in both the 59-40 win over Wabash and in the 69-51 win over top-ranked and previously unbeaten (overall) Wooster. He added seven rebounds against the Little Giants and five against the Scots as Wittenberg moved into a three-way tie for first place in the NCAC. Katie Gregorevich
Women's Basketball (1/16/05): Gregorevich, a 6-0 freshman post, paced the Tigers to two conference wins with a combined 38 points and 14 rebounds. She led Wittenberg past a previously unbeaten Kenyon, 64-35, with career-highs of 22 points and nine rebounds, then followed with 16 points and five boards in the 79-43 win over Wooster. Daniel Russ
Men's Basketball (1/9/05): Russ, a 6-9, junior post, led the Tigers to a 2-0 week with 16-of-18 (.889) shooting for 38 points and pulled down 15 rebounds. His best effort was a 22-point, eight-rebound performance in a defeat of Oberlin. Russ is tied for the team lead with 15.2 points per game this season, and ranks second in rebounding (6.2 rpg). Sarah Yuskewich
Volleyball (11/7/04): Wittenberg senior setter Sarah Yuskewich (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) led the Tigers to their eighth straight North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament title. In the NCAC tournament championship game, Yuskewich was dominant, recording 45 assists to lead Wittenberg past runner-up, Hiram, in three sets. In the Tigers semifinal win over Denison, she distributed 43 assists and seven kills. She was named the NCAC Tournament MVP for her efforts. Blair Ufer
Field Hockey (11/7/04): Wittenberg senior Blair Ufer (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) led the Tigers to their third straight NCAC Field Hockey Tournament title with two goals and three assists in two games. In the championship game, she scored off a penalty stroke with 19:45 left in the first half to hand Wittenberg its first lead of the game. The Tigers went on to defeat Kenyon, 4-2. Ufer, who found the back of the cage as part of a penalty corner play for the gamewinner in Wittenberg's 3-2 semifinal win over Wooster, was named the NCAC Tournament MVP for her efforts. Blair Ufer
Field Hockey (10/31/04): Wittenberg senior Blair Ufer (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) scored both of Wittenberg's goals in a 2-1 overtime win over Oberlin, leading the Tigers to their third straight NCAC championship. Click here for the complete list of 2004 NCAC Field Hockey Players of the Week.
Tristan Murray
Football (10/24/04): Tristan Murray (New Carlisle, Ohio/Tecumseh), a 5-10, 205-pound running back, rushed for a career-high 218 yards on a career-high 28 carries, and added 16 yards on four receptions to lead the Tigers past Wabash. He scored four touchdowns, which tied a career best, including the game-clincher from three yards out with under a minute to play. Katy Barrett
Field Hockey (10/10/04): Wittenberg sophomore forward Katy Barrett (Powell, OH/Watterson) scored five goals during the week, including her first career hat trick in a 5-1 defeat of Centre. Liz Volz
Women's Soccer (10/3/04): Wittenberg sophomore forward Liz Volz (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) scored an unassisted goal to lift the Tigers over Allegheny in overtime. Wittenberg needs just one more victory to assure itself of its second winning season since 1995. The team is riding an 11-game unbeaten string, dating to the start of the season. Julia Wickham
Field Hockey (9/26/04): Wittenberg junior forward Julia Wickham (Columbus Ohio/Grandview) scored the game-winning goal both of the Tigers' conference victories last week. She had the topper in a 3-2 victory over Wooster, and the second goal in a 6-1 rout of Earlham. Lisa Rusch
Women's Soccer (9/26/04): Wittenberg freshman Lisa Rusch (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne had an assist in the Tigers' 2-0 win over Mount St. Joseph then scored the game's lone goal in a conference-opening 1-0 win over Wooster - the Tigers biggest win of head coach Norm Riker's three seasons at the helm. Sarah Yuskewich
Volleyball (9/20/04): Sarah Yuskewich, a 6-0 senior setter for third-ranked Wittenberg University (9-1, 0-0 NCAC), has been named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III National Player of the Week after leading the Tigers to a 2-1 mark against ranked teams at the Teri Clemens Invitational in St. Louis. She averaged 16.78 assists, 1.11 kills, 1.33 digs, 0.22 blocks and 0.22 aces per game. Yuskewich tallied 43 assists with four digs, two blocks and six kills while leading Wittenberg to a sweep of 14th-ranked Trinity (Texas). She guided the team to a .333 team attack percentage with 52 assists in a sweep versus fourth-ranked Juniata and finished the week with 56 assists and six digs in a three-game loss to fifth-ranked Washington University. Yuskewich broke the North Coast Athletic Conference record for career assists and became just the 17th player in NCAA Division III to surpass 5,000-career assists. Yuskewich also won the award on Nov. 4, 2002, marking the sixth time the Tigers have been selected for the national award. The Wittenberg head coach is Paco Labrador. Ryan Holmes
Football (9/19/04): Wittenberg senior Ryan Holmes (Oxford, Ohio/Talawanda), a 6-3, 220-pound quarterback, converted a pass from four yards out with 33.6 seconds remaining to edge Thomas More, 35-31, lifting the Tigers to a 1-1 record. No Wittenberg team has lost two straight games at any time since the opening week of the 1992 season (Tigers lost season closing game in 1991 to Ohio Wesleyan and opened 1992 with loss to Baldwin-Wallace). Holmes finished 19-of-36 for 303 yards and four touchdowns. The 303 passing yards (in addition to 11 carries for 28 rushing yards) were a career-high and the ninth-highest total in Wittenberg history. Sarah Yuskewich
Volleyball (9/19/04): Wittenberg senior Sarah Yuskewich (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) was named to the all-tournament team at the Teri Clemens Invitational at Washington University. She recorded 151 in the three matches, and now leads the conference with 14.81 assists per game this season. She totalled 43 assists against Trinity, 52 versus Juniata and 56 against Washington. Kristin Fox
Volleyball (9/12/04): Wittenberg senior Kristin Fox (Galion, Ohio/Galion) had 30 kills in nine games as the Tigers swept three matches en route to the title at the Wittenberg Invitational.
