2005-06 Athletes of the Week

This list will be updated weekly as athletes are recognized by the NCAC or another official media outlet or governing body.

Cory Windle
Men's Lacrosse (5/1/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg senior Cory Windle (Columbus, OH/Worthington Kilbourne) finished his career with an eight-goal outburst in a 16-3 defeat of Washington and Jefferson. It was the third-highest single game goal total in school history. Windle added two assists to total 10 points in the contest. Stephanie Zorn
Softball (5/1/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg junior Stephanie Zorn (Grapevine, TX/Colleyville) went 10-16 (.625) last week with 11 RBI and four doubles. Andy Karcher
Men's Track and Field - Field Events (4/17/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg junior Andy Karcher (Oceola, OH/Bucyrus Wynford) placed second in the hammer throw at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on April 15. Katie Shoemaker
Men's Track and Field - Sprints/Hurdles (4/10/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg freshman Katie Shoemaker (Arcanum, OH/Franklin Monroe) won the 200 meters (27.06) and was second in the 400 meters (1:04.25) at the Mount St. Joseph Invitational on April 8. David Bazzel
Men's Track and Field - Sprints/Hurdles (4/3/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg senior David Bazzel (Tipp City, OH/Tippecanoe) placed seventh in the 100 meters (11.24) and sixth in the 200 meters (22.83) at the Radford Five-Way Invitational on April 1. Nicole Bailey
Women's Track and Field - Sprints/Hurdles (4/3/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg sophomore Nicole Bailey (Cincinnati, OH/Summit Country Day) finished seventh in the 100 meters (12.67) and ran a leg on the second-place 4x100 meter relay at the Radford Five-Way Invitational on April 1. Rachael Hatcher
Softball - Pitcher of the Week (4/3/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg freshman Rachael Hatcher (West Carrollton, OH/West Carrollton) picked up her fifth and sixth wins of the season in 2-0 shutout against Mt. Saint Joseph and a 4-3 win over Albion. She went the distance in both contests. In the shutout over Mt. Saint Joseph, she allowed four hits and struck out three. Jason Holmberg
Baseball - Pitcher of the Week (4/3/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg senior Jason Holmberg (Miamisburg, OH/Kettering Alter) tossed an 11-inning complete game to lead Wittenberg to a 4-3 win in the OWU series opener. He then came in during game four to earn the last two outs. He allowed seven hits and three runs, one of which was earned, while walking one and striking out six in 11.2 innings of work during which he threw 106 pitches. Melissa Jackson
Women's Lacrosse (3/27/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg junior Melissa Jackson (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington), who has led the Tigers in scoring in six of her team's seven games to date, helped the Tigers to their first two wins of the season, after an 0-5 start. She contributed three goals in an 11-4 decision over St. Vincent. The next day, she poured in another seven goals with four assists in a 19-10 victory over Seton Hill. Kristy Parker
Women's Track and Field - Sprints/Hurdles (2/27/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg freshman Kristy Parker (Hamilton, OH/Ross) was fifth in the 200 (27.39) and on the third place 4 x 200 Relay (1:49.11) at the Fred Wilt Memorial Invitational hosted by Anderson University on Feb. 25. Dane Borchers
Men's Basketball (2/27/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg senior post Dane Borchers (Russia, OH/Russia) led the Tigers to the NCAC Tournament title as he poured in 22 points to top all scorers and added a game-high 14 rebounds. He also added an assist, two blocks and a steal. Overall, Borchers scored 51 points and grabbed 30 boards over the three tourney contests. He was named the Tournament MVP for his efforts. Daniel Russ
Men's Basketball (2/12/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg senior Daniel Russ (Louisville, KY/Trinity), a 6-9 post, turned in one of the finest games of his career in a 66-54 decision over Ohio Wesleyan. He scored 24 points, including the first 11 his team scored in the game, grabbed nine rebounds, blocked five shots and passed out four assists. In a 81-52 decision over Hiram, he finished with 16 points and six boards in 19 minutes of action. The Tigers clinched the second seed in the upcoming North Coast tournament. Rachel Clark-Haggy
Women's Basketball (2/12/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg junior Rachel Clark-Haggy (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern), a 5-9 wing, totalled 36 points and 15 rebounds in a pair of 77-58 victories that gave the Tigers the top seed in the NCAC tournament, and at least a share of the North Coast title. She scored a career-high 20 points with eight rebounds, five assists and two steals in a decision over Earlham, then contributed 16 points and seven rebounds to defeat Ohio Wesleyan. Thomas Dillingham
Men's Track and Field - Field Events (2/12/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg's Thomas Dillingham (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) was third in the 35-pound weight throw at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio Northern. Click here to see complete list of 2006 NCAC Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week.
Gregg Carter
Women's Track and Field - Sprints/Hurdles (2/12/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg senior Gregg Carter (Wellsville, OH/Wellsville) was third in the 55 meters in 6.61 at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio Northern. Women's Track and Field - Sprints/Hurdles (2/12/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg sophomore Nicole Bailey (Cincinnati, OH/Summit Country Day) won the 55 meters at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio Northern in 7.46 seconds. Courtney Roth
Women's Swimming and Diving (2/11/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg sophomore Courtney Roth (Gurnee, Ill./Lake Forest) turned in second and fourth place finishes in the two diving events at the 2006 NCAC Swimming and Diving Championship meet in Canton, Ohio. Roth was named NCAC Diver of the Year for her efforts, which included the first All-NCAC finish of her collegiate career. Natalie Koukis
Women's Swimming and Diving (2/11/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg Swimming and Diving Head Coach Natalie Koukis led the Tiger women's team to its best finish ever in the NCAC Championships. In taking the Tigers to third place behind two of the top-ranked teams in the nation, Koukis earned her first NCAC Coach of the Year honor. Tim Lovett
Men's Track and Field - Field Events (1/29/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg junior Tim Lovett (Jeffersonville, OH/Miami Trace) combined with DJ Hlovchiec win the pole vault relay at the NCAC Relays hosted by Denison. Gregg Carter
Men's Track and Field - Sprints/Hurdles (1/22/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg senior Gregg Carter (Wellsville, OH/Wellsville) won the 55-meter dash in 6.63 at the Otterbein Invitational on January 14. He finished third in the 200-meters (23.12) and seventh in the 55-meter dash (6.67) at the Marietta Open on January 21. Ali Rohlfs
Women's Basketball (1/8/06 - NCAC): Wittenberg's Ali Rohlfs (Cincinnati, OH/Mount Notre Dame), a 5-9 sophomore post, scored the game-winner against Denison with just three seconds left on the clock in overtime. She finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds against the Big Red. She helped Wittenberg to wins over Denison, Allegheny and Hiram with a combined 21 points, 20 rebounds, nine assists and four steals. Ken Bibb
Football (11/6/05 - NCAC): Ken Bibb (Cincinnati, OH/Purcell Marian), a 6-0, 190-pound linebacker, made the most of his third career start with a career-high seven tackles, his first career interception and a forced fumble that was returned for a touchdown in the first quarter, in the Tigers' defeat of Wooster. Emily Dixon
Volleyball (11/6/05 - NCAC): Wittenberg senior Emily Dixon (Granville, OH/Granville) led Wittenberg to a pair of NCAC victories over Denison and Hiram in the NCAC Volleyball Tournament with 14 blocks. Tyler Harmon
Football (10/30/05 - NCAC): Wittenberg junior Tyler Harmon (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) has been named NCAC Defensive Player of the Week. A 6-0, 215-pound linebacker, Harmon shared game-high honors with 16 total tackles, eight of those solo, both career highs, in the Tigers' 31-9 defeat of Ohio Wesleyan. Levi Van Reeth
Men's Soccer (10/30/05 - NCAC): Wittenberg senior midfielder Levi Van Reeth (Norwich, OH/John Glenn) scored once in the Tigers' 7-1 victory over Wabash, then followed with the game-tying goal in Wittenberg's 1-1 double overtime tie with Wooster. The Tigers had fallen behind, 1-0, in the second half when Van Reeth evened things up with an unassisted goal, securing the team's first-ever appearance in the NCAC Tournament. Sydney Bates
Women's Soccer (10/30/05 - NCAC): Wittenberg sophomore forward Sydney Bates (Loveland, OH/Milford) scored a goal and added an assist as the Tigers picked up a 2-0 win over Wooster and assured themselves of a spot in the upcoming NCAC Tournament. Mackenzie Huber
Field Hockey (10/4/05 - NCAC): Wittenberg freshman Mackenzie Huber (Milford, OH/Mount Notre Dame) scored a game-winning goal and set up another gamewinner in the Tigers' 3-0 week. Huber assisted on Alison Voigt's (Louisville, Ky./Ballard) score that broke a 2-2 tie with 14:47 left to lift Wittenberg to a 3-2 victory over Sewanee. She then put in the decisive score herself with 2:08 left in a 1-0 decision over Oberlin, a match that broke the Yeowomen's six-game winning streak. Jan Kehres
Volleyball (9/11/05 - NCAC): Wittenberg sophomore outside hitter Jan Kehres (Alliance, OH/Alliance) led the Tigers with 68 digs in four matches, and contributed 37 kills with a .306 hitting percentage. The Tigers won three of four matches to finish second in the National Invitational at Washington (Mo.). The four teams the Tigers faced were all ranked in the top 10 in the nation.
