Tigers Hit Skid at Wrong Time in Sweep Against Denison

Jason Haunty
GRANVILLE, Ohio - A day after a pair of good pitching performances went unused by the Tigers, the offense returned, but the defense disappeared in a pair of losses to Denison. The Tiger bats erupted for a six-run lead against the Big Red in Game 2 before a mammoth rally downed the Red and White in a 17-10 loss. The loss came after a 9-0 blanking of the Tigers in the day's opener.

After being five-hit in the first outing of the day, Wittenberg sought revenge in the nightcap, pouring home 10 runs in the first five innings. Sophomore catcher Jason Haunty (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) nailed a pair of hits while scoring three runs and driving in another for the offense.

Senior J.T. Thompson (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) added a three-hit day for the cause, while sophomore Ray Noe (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) collected three RBI. Things looked bright for Head Coach Jay Lewis' squad after a three-spot in the fifth put the visitors up six, but the Big Red stormed back with seven and six runs in the fifth and sixth innings respectively to complete the four-game sweep.

The Tigers took a big hit to their NCAC postseason aspirations as they now have a 4-6 mark in the NCAC West and a 10-13 record overall. A non-conference meeting with Wilmington awaits at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, from Carleton Davidson Stadium.
