Otterbein, which dropped to 16-10 on the campaign, makes a return trip to Wittenberg on Thursday, April 23. Start time for that game at Carleton Davidson Stadium is 7 p.m.
Wittenberg's offense kicked into high gear against the Cardinals, annually one of the top teams in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Senior Patrick Williams (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield), sophomore Stefan Kegler (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and sophomore Zach Spring (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) all finished with three hits in the game, while junior Kory Winter (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) added two hits and two runs batted in.
Kegler had the biggest hits of the game, adding to a third-inning RBI single with a pair of home runs, including a grand slam in the game-breaking fourth inning.
The offensive barrage, which included a 15-9 advantage in hits for the Tigers, made a winner out of sophomore Jim Clement (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young), who went six solid innings. He allowed seven hits and four walks, but he limited the damage to four runs (three earned). The bullpen trio of freshman Ted Skalla (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier), junior Darin Mumaw (Fort Loramie, Ohio/Fort Loramie) and sophomore Manny Rodriguez (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) cleaned up, allowing two runs in three innings.
