    The Wittenberg Tiger Baseball Team anticipates the opening of a new ballpark in the spring of 2004. Municipal Stadium was demolished in March 2001 so fundraising efforts and construction on the new stadium can be done on the same site. Groundbreaking for the new stadium's construction took place May 16, 2003. The new name of the stadium is Carleton-Davidson.

    Carleton-Davidson Stadium is operated by the National Trail Parks and Recreation District. It was built as a WPA project in the 1930's and has served as home to minor league professional baseball teams. Wittenberg has played its home baseball games in Municipal Stadium since 1981. The new stadium is a joint project between Wittenberg University, the city of Springfield and the National Trail Parks and Recreation District.

    The $2.66 million dollar project will make the new stadium one of the best facilities in the state and region. This will be a state of the art facility that hopes to include:

         * 1061 seating capacity;
         * Minimum of 50% seating to be covered;
         * Media Center that provides services for game officials, media (print, TV/Cable, radio) telephone/computer communications;
         * Communication to dugouts;
         * Locker rooms - include showers, restrooms and individual lockers;
         * Concessions area with offices for administrative and field managers;
         * Secured storage for team/game equipment: balls, uniforms, field equipment;
         * Scoreboard(s) to be visible to travelers and can provide updated messages on upcoming events and current game schedules;
         * Field lighting to be replaced with Class A/AA Minor League lighting system.

    This facility will be a center for all players throughout the area, state and Mideast region to compete in games and tournaments. It will also benefit the business district of Springfield by the large following of a Mid-East Regional, state playoff, and youth tournaments (Connie Mack, American Legion, Babe Ruth, etc.). The Wittenberg Baseball Team is looking forward to opening this great facility with aspirations of hosting the NCAA Mideast Regional and the North Coast Athletic Conference championship tournament in its first season.
