Wittenberg Falls At Wooster
October 16, 2004

WOOSTER, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers had hoped to make this weekend's trip to Wooster a coronation of sorts, pretty much putting away the 2004 North Coast Athletic Conference regular season race with a seventh straight victory. Instead, the Scots, the preseason NCAC favorite, battled back to score a 4-1 victory in cold and blustery conditions in Wooster, Ohio.

The loss dropped the Tigers, who still control their destiny in the NCAC, to 11-2 overall and 7-2 in the conference. Wooster improved to 10-5 overall and 6-4 in the NCAC.

Wittenberg got off to a good start in this one as junior forward Julia Wickham found the back of the cage nine minutes into the game off a feed from sophomore Holly McHugh. But Wooster tied the game six minutes later and then took the lead with 13:50 showing on the first half clock. After halftime, it was all Scots as they tacked on a pair of scores, equaling the number of shot attempts credited to Wittenberg.

For the game, Wittenberg was outshot 17-7 and Wooster was granted 11 penalty corners to seven for the Tigers. Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Irvin was peppered for four goals, despite turning away four Wooster shots.

Wittenberg gets back into action on Thursday, back home in the friendly confines of Edwards-Maurer Field, as the Earlham Quakers come calling for a 7 p.m. game.
