Wittenberg Upends NCAC Leader Oberlin
With Late Goal

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - With its fifth win in the last six games, the Wittenberg Tigers have served notice to the rest of the North Coast Athletic Conference that their three-year stranglehold on the top spot in the standings will not be wrested from them easily. The Tigers upended Oberlin, 1-0, to pull into a tie atop the conference standings.

The win put an end to the Yeowomen's six-game win streak and further complicated the early-season NCAC standings. No team in the seven-team league has less than two losses, making for an exciting second half to the annual round robin regular season format.

The Tigers, who improved to 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference, got the game-winning goal from freshman Mackenzie Huber. Her score, which came with just 2:08 left in the game and was unassisted, was made possible by an outstanding defensive effort. While the entire unit played well, the goalkeeper gets the stats and thus the mention as sophomore Nicole Irvin was credited with nine saves in the game. That matched the total posted by Oberlin netminder as the Yeowomen outshot the Tigers by one, 16-15.
