Tigers Keep Pace In NCAC With Win Over Earlham

Caroline Mason
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - After a disappointing loss to conference power Wooster over the weekend the Tigers needed to get back on track against Earlham. Wittenberg wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, and that quick start launched the Tigers to a solid 4-2 win over the Quakers. With the win, the Tigers move to 8-4 overall and, more importantly, 6-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Wittenberg's first goal was scored just seven minutes into the game by junior Caroline Mason (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan). The Tigers could not hold on to lead for long as Earlham came back a few minutes later and pounded the ball into the back of the goal.

Wittenberg came back strong later in the half as senior Melissa Jackson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) scored the Tigers' second goal, off an assist from senior defender Rachel Dunn (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny). As a result, the Tigers took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

The second half was all Wittenberg. Mason notched her second goal of the game as Dunn also gained her second assist. Sophomore Whitney Marshall (Barre, Mass./Quabbe Regional) scored an insurance goal for the Tigers with a little more than five minutes left in the game. The Quakers retaliated with a goal in the final two minutes, but it was too little too late.

The Tigers must take their newfound momentum into Thursday's game against another conference foe, Ohio Wesleyan. The game is at Ohio Wesleyan at 4:30 p.m.
