Record: 44-30 (2005-present)
Wittenberg University selected Diana Goggins as its new field hockey head coach in February 2005.
Goggins led a young Tiger team to a 10-8 overall record in her first season at the helm. Wittenberg finished in a second-place tie in the North Coast Athletic Conference regular season title chase with an 8-4 record before falling in the NCAC Tournament semifinals. The 2006 and 2007 seasons saw improvement, as Goggins and the Tigers went 11-7 and 12-7, respectively. In 2007, the team achieved an 8-4 record against conference opponents and nearly won the NCAC tournament championship; the season ended in a 2-1 loss to Kenyon in penalty strokes. The 2008 season saw the Tigers continue their success in conference action with a 7-5 record and yet another appearance in the NCAC tournament.
Since taking the reins at Wittenberg, Goggins and her teams have earned a number of honors at the conference, regional and national levels. In 2007, she was named the North Coast Athletic Conference’s Coach of the Year, coached the NCAC’s Rookie and Player of the Year, and placed two student-athletes on the womensfieldhockey.com All-Rookie squad. In her tenure, Goggins has seen seven NCAC players of the week, 22 all-conference selections, 12 NFHCA Division III All-Region and two All-America players, along with 27 student-athletes recognized on the NFHCA Academic squad. Her teams also earned the 2006 and 2008 NFHCA Team Award.
Before arriving in Springfield, Goggins was an assistant coach in 2004 at fellow North Coast Athletic Conference institution Kenyon College. She helped the Ladies to a second-place finish in the NCAC regular season standings and a 14-5 overall record, tying the school record for wins in a season.
Originally from Boyertown, Pa., Goggins earned a degree in English from The Ohio State University in 2002. She was a four-time West Regional All-American, a three-time All-Big Ten selection and won the respect of her peers as a team captain two straight years.
Interestingly, Goggins earned her all-region designations at three different positions during her four years as a Buckeye. She also helped lead Ohio State to the program’s first Big Ten regular season and tournament championships in 2001 and its second-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament. The Buckeyes were ranked in the top 20 throughout her career, peaking at number five in 2001.
Goggins still actively participates as an athlete in numerous field hockey teams and clubs, including the Central Ohio Field Hockey Club, and is a former Cincinnati Centurion and Miami Cane.
Her first coaching experience came at Kenyon in the 2002-03 school year. The next year Goggins served as head field hockey coach at Holland Hall School in Tulsa, Okla., where she also taught physical education. For several years she has directed the Nike Field Hockey Camp held at Wittenberg, having previously coached camps at OSU, the University of Maryland, and Ohio Wesleyan University. Goggins has also assisted in Futures, located at The Ohio State University.
Coach Goggins currently resides in Columbus, Ohio, with her husband Jason and their son Kaleb.
