Tigers' Streak Halted By Houghton

Kelley Herde
HOUGHTON, N.Y. - Non-conference opponent Houghton brought the Wittenberg field hockey team's five-game winning streak to an end Monday night, as the Tigers fell by a final score of 3-2. Wittenberg fell to 10-4 overall, while their North Coast Athletic Conference record stayed still at 8-2.

The Tigers fell to 5-7 Houghton only after nearly rallying back from a 3-0 deficit in the second period. Wittenberg scored the last two goals of the game, but ran out of time to finish off the resurgence.

Though the loss brought the Tigers five-game streak to an end, the Red & White had already continued another streak: In every season since 1999, Wittenberg field hockey has had a winning streak of at least five games.

Junior forward Tori Casanta (Mason, Ohio/Cor Jesu Academy) and junior defender Kelley Herde (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) were responsible for the Wittenberg goals. Casanta was aided by freshman forward Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill), and Herde scored on a penalty stroke opportunity.

The score finished reverse from most other statistics, with Wittenberg taking large advantages in shots (21-10) and penalty corners (16-1).
