2000 Wittenberg Men's Golf Press Releases


May 2, 2000--
In golf action last week, the Tigers participated in the John Carroll Invitational where they finished 10th of 14 teams.

Freshmen Steve Spittle (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) is leading the Tigers this season with a 78.7 average and sophomore Kurt Bitter (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) is second with an 81.4 average.

The Tigers travel to Allegheny this weekend for the NCAC Championships where they look to improve on their fourth place finish from last season.


April 25, 2000--
The Tigers participated in two invitationals last week finishing 10th of 15 teams at the Ohio Wesleyan Invite and 4th of 11 teams at the Otterbein Invitational.

Freshmen Steve Spittle (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) led the Tigers in both meets with a team-best 158 at Otterbein and a 160 at Ohio Wesleyan. Spittle is averaging 78.7 per round this season. Sophomore Kurt Bitter (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) finished second for the Tigers shooting a 160 at Otterbein and a 161 at Ohio Wesleyan.

In this week's meet, Wittenberg travels to the John Carroll Invitational on Friday and Saturday.


April 18, 2000--
Wittenberg traveled to Capital University Invitational where it finished sixth of 14 teams.

Freshman Jesse Fyffe (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) finished with a team-best 157 in two rounds. Freshmen Steve Spittle (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and Jonathon Orr (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) each finished with a 161.

The Tigers travel to the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational this Friday and Saturday for competition against seven of the eight NCAC members.


April 11, 2000--
The Tigers participated in the Denison Invitational last weekend and finished ninth of 12 teams in the one-day event which was shortened due to bad weather.

Freshman Steve Spittle (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) shot a team-best 80 while sophomore Kurt Bitter (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) finished second on the team with an 83.

In the weekend ahead, the Tigers travel to Capital University for its invitational which begins on Sunday and finishes on Monday.


April 4, 2000--
Wittenberg opened up its spring schedule with a sixth place finish at the Muskingum Invitational. Twelve teams participated in the tournament with Otterbein walking away with first place.

Several Tigers made impressive marks in their first competition. Freshman Steve Spittle (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) had a team-best 150 while freshmen Jonathan Orr (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntington) and Jesse Fyffe (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) were not far behind with 154 and 157, respectively.

The Tigers participate in the Denison Invitational this weekend with competition on Saturday and Sunday against some of the top teams in the conference.


March 27, 2000--
The Tigers open their spring season this week when they participate in the Muskingum Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Wittenberg is under the direction of head coach Brett Steele, in his first season at Wittenberg. Steele previously served as the men's golf and assistant men's basketball coach at Muskingum College.

Returning for the Tigers this season include top golfers from last year, Kurt Bitter (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) and Reid Crawford (Barrington, Ill./Barrington).
