Intramural Indoor Soccer Rules

- A game will be two 15 minute halves running time, except the last two minutes of each half. During the last two minutes of each half, the clock will stop on all whistles.
- When a team member sends the ball out of bounds, play will resume with a THROW IN where the ball went out of bounds by the opposing team. A Goal Kick or Corner Kick would occur if the ball goes out of bounds on the goal line.
- Handballs will be enforced with the exception of the goalie in the goal box area.
- The goalie may only use his hands to field the ball in the goal box area.
- The goalie may leave the goal box area and play as a regular player.
- The goalie may wear protective eyewear, gloves or shin guards only.
- A goal may not be scored directly from a free kick - the ball must touch one other player in a free kick situation.
- The following fouls will result in a Direct Free Kick: tripping, holding, pushing, hand ball, and roughing the goalie, which can be scored on without another touch.
- Free kicks, both direct and indirect, must be taken a minimum of 5 yards outside of the goal box area.
- Direct Free Kick situations occurring inside the goal box area will result in a PENALTY KICK taken from the penalty mark 10 yards off the goal line.
- Each team is allowed one time out per half. A time out is approximately 30 seconds in length.
- Slide tackles are not allowed. A two minute penalty in addition to a direct free kick will be enforced for any slide tackle, tripping, pushing, or roughing the goalie. The player commiting the foul must stand by the timer and their team must play short during the penalty.
- All players must wear athletic shoes to participate; you cannot wear sandals, flip flops, bare feet, metal spikes or screw-ins.
- All knee and ankle braces must not have any exposed or protruding metal parts. No casts allowed.
- Each team will consist of no more than six players on the field at one time. The game may begin with a minimum of four players. During co-rec play, the team must have at least three women on the playing field at all times.
- During the regular season, games may end in a tie. During play-offs 5-minute sudden death overtime will be used twice then a shoot-out.
- All teams must be present and ready to play with a minimum of four players at the scheduled game time. The game clock will begin and continue to run as scheduled. If the 4-player minimum is not fulfilled by 5 minutes into the official game, a forfeit will be called. Any team who forfeits a game is out of the league and will no longer be eligible to compete in the Soccer league for the remainder of the semester. All players on a team that is eliminated due to a forfeit are also ineligible to compete on any other team in the league for the remainder of the season. (No additions to team rosters after the second game!)
