As a member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, the Wittenberg Ice Hockey Team recruits individuals of all abilities to play exciting, fast-paced and hard-hitting hockey. The season begins in late September and concludes in early March. Practices and games take place at the Kettering Ice Arena in Dayton Ohio. Past seasons have consisted of approximately fifteen to twenty games, including two tournaments a season. Travel for away games is limited to Ohio and neighboring states. The team has faced tough competition from teams around the region, including those representing IPFW, Xavier, Denison, Louisville, Wooster, Indiana University, and Eastern Kentucky University. Players are responsible for their own equipment.
The Wittenberg Martial Arts Club offers instruction in Tae Kwon Do and Aikido. Tae Kwon Do is a highly aerobic and offensive martial art, while Aikido is a defensive art focusing on using the attacker’s energy against him or herself.
Membership: Open to all students and offers opportunities for competition in tournaments and demonstrations.
The purpose of the club is to compete in various rugby tournaments, promote good
sportsmanship, and provide club members with a social outlet to their everyday class schedules. We compete with members of other men's and women's clubs and university clubs in an overall effort to win the Division III Midwest Cup and promote our players to higher levels of rugby.
The purpose of the organization is to promote the sport of volleyball among students at Wittenberg University and to encourage competitive play against other collegiate club teams.
Activities Include: Beach Blast fund-raiser, spring home tournament “Killfest,” scheduled practices as well as scrimmages, matches and tournaments. For the first time, the club will also attend the Collegiate Club Nationals Tournament.
Membership: Open to all Wittenberg students, faculty and staff interested in learning and participating in volleyball. We travel to other schools, some of which are overnights.
The sailing club will be open to anyone regardless of sailing background. The main activities of the club will be to attend events such as practices, meetings, regattas, and fundraisers. The club ’s main objective is to provide the student body with knowledge in operating and racing sailboats and competing with other collegiate teams. Additionally, the sailing team wishes to reinforce the Corinthian spirit of the sport, which focuses on honorable competition and can carry over into the student body.
Membership: Any interest from Wittenberg students is welcome. There are no prerequisites for becoming a member and no initiation.
The purpose of Ski Club is to offer educational, recreational, and social opportunities for those interested in winter sports, including but not limited to skiing and snowboarding activities. Our home ski area is Mad River Ski Resort, which is located in Bellefontaine, Ohio. Weekly transportation is available through the club as well as discounted ticket prices.
Membership: Open to anyone who is interested and willing to join. There are a few formal meetings, and most activities involve traveling to ski resorts.
The purpose of this organization is to aim to promote the sport of Ultimate Frisbee on campus, across the country and worldwide. In order to achieve these goals, the club holds pick-up games and practices in Myers Hollow and in Cliff Park, plays competitively in intercollegiate games across the country and donates Frisbees to third-world countries.
Membership: Open to any student or faculty member on campus. Anyone who participates is a member.
The purpose of the Crew Club is to allow students, faculty and staff to participate in the club sport of rowing. This sport has been offered to students at Wittenberg University for just a few years, and an overwhelming number of students have shown great interest in joining the team. The Crew Club consists of a diverse group of individuals with all levels of experience, many of whom have not previously found a sport or activity to join at Wittenberg. The Crew Club unifies men and women from various backgrounds by stressing the importance of physical activity, pride in the university, teamwork and leadership. Rowing instruction is provided by experienced coaches, as well as outside instructors, when available. Because of the nature of the Crew Club, members certified in CPR, lfe-guarding and emergency first aid are vital to the overall safety and well-being of the club. With the help of the university, members of the club and outside resources, the Crew Club provides an exciting opportunity to get involved at Wittenberg.
Activities Include: the Wittenberg Crew Club participates in regattas during the spring and fall seasons in which the club competes against other rowing teams from across the nation. Organizational meetings are held at least once a month in order to discuss important issues, concerns and upcoming events.
Membership: Consists of a strict regimen of conditioning, including rowing, cardiovascular conditioning and weight lifting. Members of the club participate in these activities year-round, either independently or as a group. Members also have the opportunity to assume leadership roles either as officers or committee members.
