Wittenberg scored 11 of the game's first 13 points and extended the first half lead to as much as 24 points. In the second half, the lead reached 26 points at one point before Oberlin ended the game on a 9-2 run. Two statistics stand out as decisive - Wittenberg won the battle of the boards 46-29, including an 18-10 edge in offensive rebounds, and the Tigers hit 43 percent from the field, compared to 32 percent for the Yeomen.
The Tigers, who return to action next week with home games against Kenyon on Wednesday and Denison on Saturday, were led by sophomore Kenny Brady (Reading, Ohio/Reading) with 13 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Six of his rebounds were at the offensive end. Sophomore Daniel Russ (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) added 10 points and nine boards, senior Rod Emmons (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) added 10 points, three boards and sophomore Dane Borchers (Russia, Ohio/Russia) came off the bench to score 10 points and grab three rebounds.
Oberlin got 17 points from Chris Ikpoh and 12 from Cameron Leverett.
