The second quarter continued to see both teams play strong. Wittenberg's defense was keeping pace with Denison's high-powered offense, allowing the Big Red to score just two goals in the second quarter. Wittenberg's offense continued to produce and handled Denison's pressure defense well, scoring three goals in the second quarter. Eric Clapp and Billy Habermeyer scored unassisted and Jeff Collins scored, assisted by Mark Burrell. Denison had a 4-3 lead at the half.
Denison came out firing in the third scoring four goals. The Big Red defense stepped up the intensity and pressured Wittenberg into turnovers. Wittenberg's offense couldn't get on track to keep pace. The score at the end of the third 8-3 Denison.
Wittenberg was ready to challenge Dension in the fourth and the defense continued to play strong, holding Denison to three goals. The offense answered with a goal by Collins, assisted by Habermeyer. The final score was Denison 11-5.
Goalie Michael Oliver had a great game with 25 saves and led the Tigers in groundballs with six, followed by Burrell with five. Even though the Tigers lost the game, everyone feels that this performance was a big step forward for the program. The coaches would like to thank the Bodins' for the post-game refreshments and food.
