Wittenberg Gets Back On Winning Track Against Mount St. Joseph
|
Jeff Capella
|
The win got the Tigers back on track after a tough one-goal loss in last Saturday's home opener against St. Vincent. Wittenberg now carries a 3-1 record into Friday's home contest against Washington & Jefferson. Mount St. Joseph dropped to 2-2.
Freshman Danny Johnson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) got the scoring barrage started with a goal less than three minutes into the game. That set the stage for huge offensive games from sophomore Jeff Capella (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) with four goals and two assists, sophomore Ted Winders (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) with three goals and three assists, and freshman Mitch Cohagan (Pickerington, Ohio/North) with three goals and an assist.
For the game, Wittenberg outshot the host team 32-15. Defensively, the Tigers allowed little pressure on their goal. When the Lions did break through, freshman goalkeeper Mark DeOliveira (East Hanover, NJ/East Hanover) allowed just two goals and made six saves before giving way to freshman Phil Quist (Brooklyn, NY/Cheshire Academy), who allowed one goal and made one save in his first collegiate appearance.
