Wittenberg Drops Overtime Thriller Against Colorado College
|
Matt Snider
|
After a hard-fought opening frame ended in a 1-1 draw, the visitors jumped on Wittenberg, scoring four quick goals in the second period to stabilize a 5-2 halftime edge. Junior Ted Winders (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) broke through early in the third to get the Red & White back on track. His tally was part of a three-goal day for the midfielder.
From there, it was the Matt Snider show, as he found a different way to score each time during his exhibition that built the Tigers a brief 7-6 lead. Colorado College had one more answer, though, and that came in the decisive overtime period.
Defensively, sophomore Dan Gaines (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) was stellar as he scooped up seven ground balls on the day.
With the loss, Wittenberg falls to 7-4 with a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matches remaining on the 2009 schedule for Head Coach George Harris and his rapidly improving team. The Tigers travel to Wooster to take on the Scots at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, before closing out the campaign against perennial powerhouse Ohio Wesleyan at home on May 2.
