Wittenberg at Ohio Wesleyan, April 30, 1998

The Tigers traveled to Ohio Wesleyan to finish out the 1998 season. The Bishops were ranked #1 in the nation and proved why they deserved the ranking. Wittenberg played well early, the defense holding OWU giving the offense the ball on transition. Mark Burrell dodged his defender and took the Tigers first shot and scored giving the TigerŐs an early lead. Unfortunately, that was one of only a few bright spots for Wittenberg. OWU dominated Wittenberg on face-offs giving their offense possession of the ball. Wittenberg's defense couldn't keep up as the Bishops scored 11 goals. Rob Ehrich scored for Witt, assisted by Billy Habermeyer, before the end of the quarter and OWU had an 11-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was about the same as the first, with Wittenberg's defense was having trouble containing OWU's offense, seeing them score nine goals. Wittenberg scored two goals, Burrell and Chris Gruber assisted by David Roth and Shawn Egan. OWU led 20-4 at the half.

Witt continued to struggle in the third quarter, as OWU scored nine goals. Roth scored the Tigers only goal in the third, assisted by Mark Burrell.

The fourth quater was in Wittenberg's favor seeing Gruber and Jeff Collins score unassisted while the defense held OWU to one goal. The final score was OWU 30-7.

Goalie Michael Oliver had 16 saves and backup Charlie Hamilton had a strong game with 11 saves. Burrell lead the Tigers in groundballs with five, followed by Eric Clapp with four.

The Tigers finished a successful season 10-6. They finished fourth in the NCAC with a record of 2-3.
