Randolph-Macon opened the game with two goals in the first quarter. R-M's defense pressured or attack and the Tiger offense couldnŐt get their half-field offense started. The first quarter ended with Randolph-Macon with a 2-0 lead.
During the second quarter the Tiger offense got on track by controlling the ball better and players starting to move their feet off-ball. As the Tiger offense started to generate shots, Randolph-Macon's goalie was probably the player with the most impact on the game as Wittenberg couldn't get the ball past him. Wittenberg's defense settled down also, holding Randolph-Macon's offense scoreless in the second. The score at the half was Randolph-Macon 2-0.
The third quarter began with Wittenberg being man-down and Randolph-Macon converted quickly to improve its lead to 3-0. Tiger attackman Michael Stormshak got the Tigers on the board with a unassisted goal cutting Randolph- Macon's lead to two. The Tiger offense continued to produce shots but failed to convert. Randolph-Macon added another goal before the end of the third making the score 4-1.
The Tigers were in position to cut into Randolph-Macon's lead. The Tigers continued to produce shots but as earlier couldnŐt finish. The Tiger defense tried to increase the pressure toward the end of the fourth quarter but broke down and allowed Randolph-Macon to score three goals. The final was 7 - 1.
Mark Burrell led the Tigers in ground balls with six and David Roth followed with five. Goalie Michael Oliver played well with a total of 18 saves.
After the game Randolph-Macon provided dinner for the Tigers. It was an opportunity to see another campus, and to share a meal with fellow lacrosse players. Wittenberg coach Bruce Reid would like to thank Coach Jim Woodcock for hosting the Tigers and Jeff and Nancy Rathfon for providing post game refreshments and snacks for the team during the spring break trip.
The Tigers finished their spring break trip 1-2. All but a few of the players saw game time. Some players did well, while others realized that they needed to work more on their skills to improve their game. The Tigers have two weeks to prepare for their first NCAC game when they host Oberlin on Saturday March 21st at 1 p.m.
