The Tiger offense got on track in the second quarter with goals from Mike Stromshak, assisted by Eric Clapp; Mark Burrell; Chris Gruber, assisted by Mario Cassani and Eric Clapp. Wittenberg took a 5-3 lead but let it slip away by allowing Shenandoah to tie the score. The half ended in a 6-6 deadlock.
The third quarter was scoreless until late when Wittenberg got a goal from Jon Sonntag and took a 7-6 lead.
The fourth began with Wittenberg increasing its lead by two with a goal from attackman Mike Stormshak. This was the second time the Tigers had a two goal lead. Wittenberg had a chance to finish the game with a win but Shenandoah answered back with two goals to tie the game sending it into overtime. Both teams had opportunities to win the game in overtime. The Tiger offense generated 6 shots but couldn't convert. As Shenandoah's defense was clearing the ball, attackman Billy Habemeyer made a check that produced a turnover for Eric Clapp who picked up the ground ball at midfield and scored unassisted to give the Tigers their first win 9-8.
