Wittenberg Opens NCAC Play With 1-0 Win Over Kenyon
Sept. 24, 2005

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tiger offense will probably never be completely whole in 2005, but the sum of its parts were just enough on Saturday night at Edwards-Maurer Field in a 1-0 win over Kenyon. It was the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for the Tigers, who welcomed back junior Sebastian Missura from injury but lost Mike Conley in the second half after a collision with the Lords' goalkeeper.

Combined with the continued absence of promising freshman forward Shane Price, who has missed most of the season due to injury, and the net result is a Tiger offense still searching for that magic combination. But thanks to a strong defensive effort that allowed Kenyon just 10 total shots, including five on goal that were saved by junior goalkeeper Adam Horrocks, the Tigers had just enough to improve to 4-3-3 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC.

The Tigers, who held the upper hand in total shots with 17 to Kenyon's 10, got all they would need on a second-half goal by junior Ian Acker off a feed from freshman Matt Borland. The play wasn't one of the most organized Wittenberg attacks of the night, but Acker was in the right place at the right time after some close combat in the penalty box and Borland's short pass.
