Tigers Lose Regular Season Finale At Ohio Wesleyan

Justin Jenkins
DELAWARE, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers rounded out one of the best regular seasons in school history on a down note Friday, losing 2-0 at Ohio Wesleyan, a 2006 NCAA Division III Tournament semifinalist.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 12-4-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). Wittenberg entered the game tied with Kenyon for the league lead, but Ohio Wesleyan vaulted past the Tigers into first place, pending Kenyon's result tomorrow at Allegheny. Regardless of that game's outcome, Wittenberg is assured of a berth in the four-team NCAC Tournament for just the second time in the eight-year history of the event. The Tigers can finish no worse than third in the final NCAC regular season standings.

The Tigers had their chances in this one, and they hung with the Battling Bishops throughout. The host team held a 17-11 advantage in shots and 7-2 edge in corner kick opportunities. OWU scored a goal early in each half and then limited the Tigers to four shots on goal.

Three of those shots were credited to junior Matt Borland (Kettering, Ohio/Alter), with the other going to junior Justin Jenkins (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto).

Defensively, senior goalkeeper Ben McAnnis-Entenman (Portland, Ore./Cleveland) finished with seven saves.
