Tigers Top Otterbein To Claim Wittenberg Invitational Title

Brian Glenn
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Continuing the strong start the Wittenberg men made on Saturday, the Tigers cleaned up on Sunday, winning the back end of their two-game weekend, this time against Otterbein. The win earned the Tigers their first Wittenberg Invitational title since 1993, and junior midfielder Matt Borland (Kettering, Ohio/Alter) was selected as the event's Most Valuable Player.

Strong defense was once again the trademark of the squad, as the Tigers allowed just two shots on goal the entire game. Sophomore forward Brian Glenn (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) recorded his first goal of the season on a breakaway in the 21st minute of the game, getting an assist from junior midfielder Jimmy Thinnes (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle).

In all, Wittenberg's offense worked as hard as its defense, attempting a monstrous 16 shots on goal, one of which found its way into the net in the 58th minute of the game, fed from sophomore forward Matt Fleissner (Fanwood, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood), and scored by junior forward Shane Price (Minford, Ohio/Minford).

The win moves Wittenberg to an unbeaten 2-0-0 record overall, as they prepare to host Wilmington at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.
