Tigers Impress Homecoming Crowd, Stay Perfect

Michael Condon
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - In front of a Homecoming crowd that included former Tiger soccer players, Wittenberg's 2008 squad continued its string of wins, extending its program-best start to 12-0-0 with a 3-2 win over the Oberlin College Yeomen.

After a fast-paced start which saw both teams have opportunities, the Tigers finally took advantage of an Oberlin foul in the box. Junior Brian Glenn (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) converted on the ensuing penalty kick in the 28th minute to give the Tigers a 1-0 edge.

Right before halftime, the Tigers won a corner kick, and junior defender Michael Condon (Powell, Ohio/Watterson) punched the cross into the upper corner to double the Tigers advantage at the intermission.

The second half gave the Tigers more chances to strengthen their hold on the contest, finally resulting in a Shane Price (Minford, Ohio/Minford) strike. which gave the Tigers a 3-0 advantage. Oberlin tallied two goals in the final moments of the contest to yield the final result.

Wittenberg will be home again on Wednesday, Oct. 15, when the Wabash Little Giants visit Edwards-Maurer Field for a 7 p.m. start.
