
November 2, 1999-- (7-6-2, 2-2-2 NCAC)
Last week the Tigers posted two victories defeating Marian (Ind.) 3-2 and shutting out conference opponent Denison 1-0. Freshman Matt Lapish (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./South) scored his first collegiate goal in the game against Marian with the two other goals coming from senior John Rieppel (Alexandria, Ohio/Granville) and sophomore Chad Atwood (Nashport, Ohio/Tri-Valley). Rieppel also recorded the lone goal in the shut out with Denison which was assisted by junior Matt Brewer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin).
Brewer is leading the team in scoring with six goals and five assists and average of 1.06 points per game for the Tigers.
The Tigers wrap up their 1999 season this week when they host Earlham on Tuesday, travel to Cedarville on Wednesday and host Hiram in their final home game on Saturday.
October 26, 1999-- (6-6-2, 2-2-2 NCAC)
In last week's action the Tigers fell to defending national champion Ohio Wesleyan 4-0 and then tied conference opponent Kenyon 1-1 on Saturday.
The Tigers leading scorer junior Matt Brewer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) scored the Tiger goal against Kenyon and was assisted by Paul Grattage (London, England). Brewer is averaging 1.14 points per game and is ranked eighth in the conference in scoring.
Grattage is second on the team in scoring with 12 points and junior Adam Greenwood (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) is third with 11 points.
Wittenberg faces Marian (Ind.) on Tuesday and then travels to conference opponent Denison on Saturday to wind down its conference schedule.
October 18, 1999-- Wittenberg opened the week postponing a conference game with Earlham due to severe weather and closed the week with a 3-2 loss to Oberlin. Junior Matt Brewer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin), the Tigers leading scorer with 1.17 points per game, recorded the first goal of the game with an assist by senior John Rieppel (Alexandria, Ohio/Granville). Recording his first collegiate goal in the game against the Yeomen was freshman Josh Curtis (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and was assisted by sophomore Steve Cassiere (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin).
The Tigers continue into the heart of their conference schedule this week when they travel to play the defending national champion Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday and then Kenyon on Saturday. The game against nationally ranked Earlham which was scheduled for last Wednesday will be played on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
October 12, 1999-- The Tigers faced Allegheny in action last week and finished in a 1-1 tie. Wittenberg scored on a goal by Paul Grattage (London, England) with an assist by John Rieppel (Alexandria, Ohio/Granville), but were unable to find the net during two overtimes. The Gators were ranked fifth in the Great Lakes region prior to the tie.
Leading the Tigers in scoring is junior Matt Brewer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) with four goals and four assists. He is 10th in the conference in scoring with 1.09 points per game. Grattage and junior Adam Greenwood (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) follow Brewer with 11 points each.
This week, the Tigers face a challenging schedule hosting games against nationally ranked Earlham on Wednesday and Oberlin on Saturday.
October 4, 1999-- (6-4, 2-0 NCAC)-- Wittenberg saw action at home last week when it hosted Wilmington on Tuesday and then Wooster on Saturday. The Tigers fell to Wilmington 3-2 on a rain-soaked afternoon but recorded another win in the conference when they beat Wooster 4-1.
Junior Adam Greenwood (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) recorded three goals for the Tigers in last week's action including two goals in the Tiger's loss to Wilmington. He is the team's second leading scorer averaging 1.1 points per game. Freshman midfielder Matt Lapish (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./South) scored his first collegiate goal in the game against the Scots, and senior John Rieppel (Alexandria, Ohio/Granville) and junior Matt Brewer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) each added another goal for the Tigers in the win. Brewer is the Tiger's leading scorer, averaging 1.2 points per game.
In this week's action, Wittenberg attempts to continue its successful conference record when it hosts Allegheny on Saturday.
September 28, 1999-- (5-3, 1-0 NCAC)--The Tiger's continued their success winninig the Wilmington-Kiwanis Classic last week. Wittenberg defeated Baldwin-Wallace n the first contest 5-3 and then defeated Anderson 5-1 in the second game.
Four players recorded two goals for the Tiger's to lead in last week's action. Senior captain Chris MacLaren (Indianapolis, Ind./Park Tudor) , junior Matt Brewer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) , and freshman Paul Grattage (Manchester, England) each hit the net twice for Wittenberg.
Leading the Tiger's in overall scoring are Brewer and Grattage, each with nine points. Brewer is also the team leader in assists, with three.
This week, Wittenberg hosts Wilmington in a non-conference game on Wednesday and then hosts Wooster on Saturday in its second conference game of the season.
September 20, 1999-- (3-3, 0-0 NCAC)--Wittenberg opened its season with a 5-0 victory over Muskingum before hosting its own invitational with Buffalo State, Otterbein, and Ohio Dominican. The Tigers defeated Buffalo State 2-0, but then fell in the championship game to Otterbein 1-0. The Tigers also fell to Alma 3-1 and Eastern Mennonite 1-0 in the Adidas Invitational at Ohio Wesleyan. In last week's action, Wittenberg traveled to Wabash for its first conference game of the season where it defeated the Little Giants 1-0.
Paul Grattage (Manchester, England) is currently leading the Tigers in scoring with five points with two goals and one assist. Goalkeeper Jake Gibson (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) has recorded three shutouts and 29 saves for the Tigers in five games.
The Tigers travel to Wilmington for its invitational this weekend playing Baldwin-Wallace Friday and Anderson Saturday.
