Four-Match Win Streak Ends In Tight Loss To NCAC Rival Wooster

Andy Lamb
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg men's tennis team fell just short in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) match against visiting Wooster, with the deciding matches going into tiebreakers before final decisions were reached.

The loss snapped the Tigers' four-match win streak, and moved their regular season record to 14-6. Since Wooster competes in the Eastern Division of the NCAC, Wittenberg remains 3-1 in the NCAC West, good for second place.

Freshman Stephane Antwi (Rosedale, NY/Monsignor McClancy Memorial) and his opponent played neck and neck, with scores turning up as close as they come. He lost by set scores of 7-6, 7-6 with both sets going into tiebreakers. Singles winners for the Tigers were sophomore Andy Lamb (Bluffton, Ohio/Bluffton) and junior Craig Lods (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe). The No. 3 doubles pair of sophomore Bobby Fisher (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) and Lamb also scored for the Tigers, defeating their opponent 8-6.

The Tigers now have a week to prepare for their final test of the 2008-09 season, the NCAC Tournament next weekend at Kenyon. Last year, the Tigers finished seventh, but considering the big strides Head Coach Justin Stuckey and his Tigers have made this year, hopes are high for a much better finish this time around.
