2000 Men's Tennis Preview

Tigers Welcome Host of New Faces as They
Compete for a Conference Title

The Wittenberg University men's tennis program welcomes a host of new faces to the 2000 season and is ready to battle for a top spot in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Third year head coach Dave Engle returns several of his top players for the 2000 season including juniors Bryan Heft (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln), Mark Swart (Holland, Mich./Holland), and Spencer Sakai (Cincinnati, Ohio/Warren). A second team All-NCAC selection last season, Helt finished second overall in the 1999 Fall DePauw Rolex Tournament.

Also look for contributions from Robert Postma (Tallmadge,Ohio/Tallmadge) who played a strong role for the Tigers last season at the number two spot. Wittenberg also expects to see strong performances from new students Casey Clagett (Steamboat Springs, Col./Steamboat Springs) and Eric Cusick (Lima, Ohio/Lima).

Wittenberg will once again face a tough scedule with non-conference opponents Ohio Northern, Cedarville, and Bluffton, as well as strong competition on the NCAC. The Tigers will once again travel to Winter Haven, Florida during their annual spring break to increase their level of competition and prepare for the upcoming spring season.

The NCAC will again be one of the toughest conferences in the NCAA Division III as it added new members Hiram and Wabash and the Tigers must be prepared to step up and continue to improve their record to play for a top spot.

The Tigers open their spring schedule at the Albright Tennis Complex, a state-of-the-art facility completed in 1997, on March 25 with new NCAC member Hiram.
