Numerous Top Showings Pace Tigers at All-Ohio

Gabe Savage
Westerville, Ohio- Wittenberg's track and field teams made their presence felt at the All-Ohio Championships with strong outings at Otterbein College. Gabe Savage (Lewisburg, Ohio/Tri-County North) had perhaps the performance of the afternoon, running step-for-step with multiple national champion Jimmy O'Brien in the mile, coming up just short while running a time of 4:19.99.

Senior Erik Larkin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Country Day) showed up for his final All-Ohio meet with a fourth place mark in the triple jump with a leap of 13.37 meters. His place was matched in another Tiger strong field showing - junior Mat Guida (LaGrange, Ky./Oldham County) threw the weight 13.54 meters in his effort. The trio joined a sixth place 4 x 400 meter team that helped the Tigers to 21 points and an 11th place team finish.

The women's contingent received points from their 4x400 meter relay's fifth place finish in the evening's last event. Individually, Mary Pfeifer (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) took eighth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:56.89. In the high jump, the Red and White also received a scoring effort from freshman Evianne van de Zande (Zierikzee, The The Netherlands) with a height of 1.46 meters.

Wittenberg's women took 15th place in the state as they prepare for the DePauw Invitational this Saturday, Feb. 21 with two more meets to prepare for the NCAC Championships in early March.
