Tigers Ready for Conference Run After Strong Wilmington Invite

Darcy Dubuc
WILMINGTON, Ohio — With the NCAC Championships two weeks away, Wittenberg keyed in on another weekend of strong performances in preparation for the opening weekend in May. Relays provided the higlights of the day for the well-balanced Tiger men's and women's teams.

In the individual events, freshman Darcy Dubuc (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) easily took the win in the 800 meters in a time of 2:20.97. Classmate Catherine Kuerbitz (Cleveland, Ohio/Regina) ran to a runner-up spot in the 400 dash before joining fellow first-years Jordan Stafford (Springfield, Ohio/Greenon) and Samantha Iden (Pickerington, Ohio/North) and senior Katie Shoemaker (Arcanum, Ohio/Franklin Monroe) in a second-place 4x400 relay. Kuerbitz ran a 59.63 while her relay took a time of 4:05.98.

Capping off the meet for the men, the quartet of sophomore Jumar Guy (Fort Wayne, Ind./Southside), senior Mark King (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis), senior Manny Lamarre (Miami, Fla./Bellen Jesuit) and senior Jimmy Thinnes (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) ran away from the field in the 4x400 relay. Their time, nearing a school record, clipped in at 3:22.84.

The final stop before the conference meet sends the Tigers to Granville, Ohio on Friday, April 24 for the Big Red Invite. The NCAC decathalon and heptahalon events will take place over the same weekend at Oberlin College.
