Marv Frye Invitational

Allison Walker
DELAWARE, Ohio - The Wittenberg men's and women's track and field teams both finished 11th of 13 at the Marv Frye Invitational at Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday, but hard-luck team finishes could not stop several individuals from providing highlights.

Topping the women was senior Allison Walker (Columbus, Ohio/Academy), who took first place in the hammer throw with a distance of 134-01 feet to pick up 10 points for the team. Junior Katie Shoemaker (Arcanum, Ohio/Franklin Monroe) added a third-place showing in the 400-meter dash and finished eighth in the 1500-meter run, while freshman Kaitlyn Wesseler (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) dropped in a fourth-place finish in the pole vault.

The men's team received a blue-ribbon performance from sophomore Mat Guida (LaGrange, Ky./Oldham County) in the discus to start the highlights. Senior Mike Echols (Springfield, Ohio/North) took second in the 3000-meter steeplechase, and the Tigers turned in third-place finishes in two events, the triple jump and the javelin, provided by junior Erik Larkin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Country Day) and freshman Corey Weber (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) respectively. Also finishing strong for the Tigers was sophomore Adam Roberts (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee), who placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles.

The Tigers will head back to Ohio Wesleyan next weekend for the All-Ohio Invitational.
