Food Drive as Part of Community Night Sept. 13
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Wittenberg University is hosting Community Night on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Edwards-Maurer Field. Dinner will be served beginning at 5 p.m. under a large tent at the north end of the stadium, approximately two hours prior to kickoff of Wittenberg's football game against visiting Urbana University.
Tickets for both events will be sold at the gate, beginning at 5 p.m. and ending at 6:30 p.m. Meal ticket prices are $4 for adults and $2 for children. Game ticket prices are $5 for adult reserved seats, $4 for adult general admission, $3 for senior citizens and $2 for children 12 years of age and under.
A variety of special pregame and halftime entertainment will be provided, including a performance by the Marysville High School Band. Fans are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets and, weather permitting, sit on the hill at the north end of the stadium, which overlooks the playing field.
In addition to the Community Night festivities and football game against a local rival, Wittenberg's student-athletes are taking the opportunity to volunteer their time for a great cause. The Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) is sponsoring a canned food drive. Student-athlete volunteers will be collecting canned food and donations at both the north and south gates from 5 p.m. until approximately halftime of the game. The donations will be used to support area food pantries.
"This is a really great opportunity for Wittenberg student-athletes to bond together and show their leadership on this campus," said SAAC spokesperson senior Kristen Hillebrand, who is organizing the canned food drive with Director of Athletics and Recreation Garnett Purnell. "It will show what kind of impact we can have on the Springfield community."
In addition, the athletic department will hold its annual garage sale during the event, at which time athletic equipment, uniforms and other items will be sold. The Wittenberg Bookstore will also be selling items. Nickles Bakery, which donates all of the bread products for the event, and Sodexho Food Service are helping to support the evening's activities.
