SAAC Food Drive Volunteers Talk During Community Night 2003

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Wittenberg University is hosting Community Night on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Edwards-Maurer Field. Dinner will be served from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the HPER Center as a prelude to Wittenberg's football game against visiting Thomas More College.
Tickets for the event will be sold at the gate beginning at 5 p.m. Ticket prices for the game and dinner are $8.50 for adults, $7.50 for seniors and students, and $6.50 for children under the age of 12. Ticket prices for the game only are $4 for general admission and $2 for children.
A variety of special pregame and halftime entertainment will be provided, including performances by The Bomb Squad, a band made up of local youths ages 7-17, and the new Wittenberg Pep Band, which is making its first football appearance after playing several basketball games last winter. Fans are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets and, weather permitting, sit on the hill at the north end of the stadium, which overlooks the playing field.
In addition to the Community Night festivities and football game, Wittenberg's student-athletes are taking the opportunity to volunteer their time for a great cause. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is sponsoring a canned food drive. Student-athlete volunteers representing many of the university's 23 varsity teams will be collecting canned food and donations at both the north and south gates from 5:30 p.m. until approximately halftime of the game. The donations will be used to support area food pantries.
"This is a good way for us to help out in the community, no matter the campus organization," said SAAC spokesperson Kristyn Russell, who is organizing the canned food drive with Assistant to the Director of Athletics and Recreation Tooti Snider, the SAAC adviser. "This is something that will bring Wittenberg and the Springfield community closer together."
In addition, the Wittenberg Bookstore will be selling various apparel and souvenir items, and the football team will have supporters selling t-shirts and raffle tickets for an authentic Cincinnati Bengals helmet autographed by quarterback Carson Palmer.
Sodexho Food Service is once again providing food services in support of the evening's activities, and Schweibel's Bakery is donating the buns for dinner this year.
