This is the second straight year that Farrell has picked up an academic award in the district round of Academic All-America voting, but it is her first appearance on the first team. A three-year starter and soon-to-be four-year letterwinner at the midfield position for the Tigers, Farrell is enjoying another outstanding season for the 12th-ranked Tigers. After leading Wittenberg in scoring a year ago, Farrell has continued to excel in 2007 with three goals and four assists for 10 total points, second-most on the team. For the second straight year, she tops the squad in game-winning goals with three.
Farrell carries a 3.8 grade point average while majoring in biology. In addition to her dedication to the women's soccer program and her exemplary class work, Farrell is active in numerous campus clubs and organizations, including the Pre-Health Club, the American Institute of Biological Sciences and Athletes for Christ.
Farrell has been a key part of the finest season in Wittenberg women's soccer history as the Tigers carry a 16-2-2 overall record into the biggest game of the season on Saturday. The Tigers will host the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament championship game against Denison University at 7 p.m. at Edwards-Maurer Field. It is Wittenberg's third appearance in the tourney final, and the second straight time that the Tigers will host the game. A year ago, Wittenberg registered a 1-0 win over Denison to advance to the first NCAA Division III Tournament in school history.
The Tigers captured the first NCAC regular season title in the 22-year history of the program with a 6-0-2 record, and Wittenberg is currently the No. 1 ranked team in the Great Lakes Region. Wittenberg has a 56-14-11 overall record during Farrell's four-year collegiate career, easily the best stretch in school history. She is one of nine seniors who make up the heart of the 2007 team.
Farrell will now be considered for Academic All-America honors in voting that takes place later this month.
