Springfield, Ohio — After ranking among the national leaders in batting average for much of the 2008 season, Wittenberg University baseball standout Jeremey Fruhwirth, class of 2008 from Beavercreek, Ohio, has earned second-team Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association All-Mideast Region honors.

This is the first such award in Fruhwirth's career, after he was selected first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) last week. He helped the Tigers to records of 19-19 overall and 7-9 in the NCAC West Division in 2008.

Fruhwirth started all 38 games in 2008 for the Tigers. A two-year letterwinner after transferring from Defiance College and then struggling with injuries in 2006, Fruhwirth put together one of the finest seasons in school history, leading the team with a .438 batting average, 57 hits, 31 runs batted in, 68 total bases and a .534 on-base percentage. He also ranked among the team leaders in runs scored with 32, doubles with nine and walks with 20. In addition, Fruhwirth committed just two errors in the field.

For his career, Fruhwirth finished with batting average of .391 in 215 at-bats, placing him fourth on the Wittenberg record list. He drove in 42 runs and scored 49 more.
