Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University volleyball standout Jessica Kimble, class of 2009 from Dennison, Ohio, has been recognized for the combination of her athletic and academic accomplishments with third-team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division All-District IV honors.

This is the first Academic All-District IV award for Kimble. The selection is a result of online voting conducted recently by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Student-athletes who made the first-team in the district voting will now be considered for Academic All-America awards.

In the classroom, Kimble has excelled, posting a 3.63 cumulative grade point average while majoring in history. She is the editor of the Wittenberg History Journal, a member of the Pre-law Association and has been inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the student-athlete honorary, and Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society.

On the court, Kimble has become a force after learning the ropes as a reserve as a freshman in 2005. Since then, the 6-0 middle hitter has been a mainstay in the Wittenberg line-up, ranking among the team leaders in kills and blocks each of the last two years. Her contributions prior to the 2008 season have helped Wittenberg reached three straight NCAA Division III Tournament Final Fours while winning two North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season titles and two NCAC Tournament crowns.

Kimble, who ranks second on the team in kills and first in blocks this year, and the Tigers are headed for more hardware in 2008, starting with a third consecutive NCAC regular season title secured last week. Wittenberg will shoot for a third NCAC Tournament championship in Kimble's four years in the Red & White this weekend when the Tigers host second-place Wooster, third-place Hiram and fourth-place Allegheny in matches to be played in Pam Evans Smith Arena.

Wittenberg, ranked fifth nationally and first in the Great Lakes Region with a 30-2 overall record, will also host the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Tournament Nov. 13-15.
