Zach Brumfield

Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University football standout Zach Brumfield, class of 2009 from Springfield, Ohio, has been recognized for the combination of his athletic and academic accomplishments with second-team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division All-District IV honors.

This is the first Academic All-District IV award for Brumfield. The selection is a result of online voting conducted recently by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Student-athletes who made the first-team in the district voting will now be considered for Academic All-America awards.

In the classroom, Brumfield has compiled a 3.79 grade point average while majoring in management. He is a member of the Pre-Law Association, president of the Tau Pi Phi Honor Society and vice president of Wittenberg’s Investment Club, which has been so successful with its investing strategies that it was recently profiled by the national Web site Thestreet.com.

Brumfield is a recipient of two prestigious scholarships, Wittenberg’s Dove Pre-Law Scholarship and the Earl Morris Pre-Law Scholarship, presented by the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges. He was also a 2008 semifinalist for the National Football Foundation’s Draddy Trophy, nicknamed the "Academic Heisman."

On the field, Brumfield has been a key contributor for the Tigers at safety and on special teams. He has eight tackles in six games in 2008 after missing most of the 2007 campaign due to injury. Wittenberg heads into Saturday’s game at Allegheny with records of 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

In Brumfield’s career, the Tigers have a four-year record of 26-13, including a 21-5 mark in NCAC action. Wittenberg won the 2006 NCAC title and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament that year.
