Jordan Beauchamp '11 (No. 14) and her teammates will keep the lacrosse ball moving for 24 straight hours.

Springfield, Ohio — The Wittenberg University women's lacrosse team is hosting its first annual "Laxathon," a 24-hour lacrosse marathon in Pam Evans Smith Arena in the HPER Center, from 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.

Team members have signed up in shifts to keep the lacrosse ball moving throughout the event. Requests have been made of family, friends and alumni for hourly pledges, with all proceeds going to support the cost of the team's planned Spring Break trip to San Antonio, Texas, in March 2010.

Any member of the Wittenberg community interested in learning more about lacrosse or picking up a stick to toss the ball around during the event is welcome to stop by during the event. Donations can also be made by contacting Head Coach Nichole Johnson by phone at (937) 327-6490 or via e-mail.

Team members are looking forward to the fundraiser, which caps their fall non-traditional season. The team has practiced regularly over the last month, and the Tigers hosted a "Play Day" on Sunday, Oct. 4, which included scrimmages with other NCAA Division III teams and a club squad from the University of Michigan.

"Not only do we look forward to raising funds for our Spring Break trip, but this event is also a fun way to build team unity and continue to improve our lacrosse skills," said Ashley Klingelhoefer, class of 2011 from Wooster, Ohio.

Wittenberg is coming off a 2009 season in which the Tigers finished 7-7 overall and 3-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). Johnson heads into her first season with the Tigers with 15 returning letterwinners, led by all-conference honorees Jordan Beauchamp, class of 2011 from Noblesville, Ind., and Maggie Amorello, class of 2011 from Sutton, Mass.
