| Wittenberg Baseball Tournament features 11 top teams competing at four sites | ||

Posted March 21 2001, 05:13 pm Posted by: Ryan Maurer SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – There may still be a chill in the air, but Wittenberg University’s "Boys of Spring" are heading back to the home diamond this weekend as hosts of the Wittenberg Baseball Tournament. Festivities get under way Thursday, March 22 as Thomas More College and Malone College square off in a doubleheader at the Municipal Stadium Annex in Springfield. Start time is 4 p.m.
The host Tigers start action on Friday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader against the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford, the first of six games Wittenberg will play in three days. The others are single games on Saturday against Muskingum College and Malone at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m; and a doubleheader versus John Carroll University starting at 1 p.m. Sunday. Wittenberg (6-2-1) heads into the tournament riding a four-game win streak, including a 14-11 victory on March 14 over Wilmington College.
Wilmington will be one of three other area schools hosting games this weekend. The Quakers will play six games between Friday and Sunday. Cedarville University will play and host games on Friday and Saturday, while Urbana University will play and host games all three days. Joining the four host schools are Hiram College, Muskingum, John Carroll, Pitt-Bradford, Malone, Thomas More and Walsh University. There is no admission to any of the games.
