SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Wittenberg University senior tennis player Bryan Heft has been selected to compete in the 2001 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championships May 21-23 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

Heft, of Gahanna, Ohio, was one of eight players selected from the Midwest Region, and he is one of 32 players in the singles competition. A four-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection (three times on the first team, including 2001), Heft carries a 22-4 season record into the competition after playing No. 1 singles exclusively. For his career, he has a singles record of 61-26 at No. 1 singles.

It will be Heft's first appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championships, and the first appearance by a Wittenberg player in more than a decade. He is one of two players from the NCAC to be selected, the other being Jeronie Barnes of Denison, the Big Red's No. 1 player and the NCAC Player of the Year.

The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes. The tournament draw will not be made until Sunday, following the completion of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Team Championship, also at DePauw.
