Wittenberg Hosts Kiwanis-Wittenberg Tip-Off
Men's and Women's Basketball Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - In a new twist on an old classic, the Wittenberg University men’s and women’s basketball teams are hosting their annual tournament at the beginning of the season instead of the middle. The newly renamed competition is called the Kiwanis-Wittenberg Tip-Off Classic, and it’s scheduled for Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23 at Wittenberg’s HPER Center. Games for both days are scheduled for 1, 3, 6 and 8 p.m.

Participating in the men’s tournament are John Carroll University College of University Heights, Ohio, Alma College of Alma, Mich., Ohio Dominican of Columbus, Ohio, and Wittenberg. Action gets underway Friday at 6 p.m. as Ohio Dominican takes on John Carroll and the host Tigers clash with Alma at 8 p.m. or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game. On Saturday, the consolation game is slated for 3 p.m. or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women’s consolation game and the championship contest is slated for 8 p.m. or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women’s championship game. Wittenberg has won 15 of the 17 title games in the tournament’s history, including last year when the Tigers topped Marian (Ind.).

Participating in the women’s tournament are Albion College from Albion, Mich., Otterbein College from Westerville, Ohio, the University of St. Thomas from St. Paul, Minn., and Wittenberg. Action gets underway Friday at 1 p.m. as Otterbein and St. Thomas square off and the host Tigers take on Albion at 3 p.m. or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game. On Saturday, action opens with the consolation game at 1 p.m. and the championship game at 6 p.m. Wittenberg has won seven of the 14 title games in the women’s competition history.
