CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Wittenberg's Casey Clagett, the first Tiger player (male or female) to win the ITA Central Region singles championship and qualify for the annual national competition, lost in Saturday's seventh-place match in Division III men's singles at the Omni Hotels National Small College Tennis Championships at the H.E.B. Tennis Center. Clagett lost to Washington College's (Md.) Peter Taylor 6-1, 6-0 in the seventh-place match after losing in Friday's consolation semifinals to MIT's Evan Tindell, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 and Averett's Vellu Antilla, the No. 2 seed, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, in previous tournament action.

This event determines national champions for NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges men's and women's singles and doubles during the first three days of play. Those champions then compete to become the overall national small college champs (for all divisions) on Sunday in the Omni Hotels "Super Bowl" of Small College Tennis. This tournament is the only national championship event for singles and doubles at the NCAA Division II and NAIA level, and the only tournament that combines all levels of Junior/Community College (NJCAA Divisions I, II and III and the California schools).

Each small college division features eight singles players and eight doubles teams who earned spots into this national event by winning their respective Omni Hotels Regional Championships held over the past three weeks throughout the country (as well as some "at-large" selections).

This event is presented by the U.S. Tennis Association and administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The overall Omni Hotels "Super Bowl" of Small College Tennis champions on Sunday will earn wild cards into the Nov. 7-10 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, hosted by SMU at Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas. This tournament is the second of three national championships for Division I tennis and offers the small college participants the opportunity to become champions for all divisions of collegiate tennis.

The tournament can be followed at www.itatennis.com.
