Allegheny Sweeps NCAC Men's and Women's
Cross Country Championships Hosted by Wiittenberg University

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Wittenberg University hosted the 19th Annual North Coast Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 at John Bryan State Park near Yellow Springs, Ohio. Allegheny College won both the men’s and women’s team championships.

Kenyon senior Michael Baird (Temple, Texas/Temple) won the men’s individual championship with a time of 25:10 in the eight-kilometer race and was awarded NCAC Men’s Runner of the Year. He was the runner-up a year ago to teammate Ben Hildebrand. Wittenberg senior Abi Gerstle (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) won the women’s individual championship with a time of 18:46 in the five-kilometer race and was awarded NCAC Women’s Runner of the Year. It was Gerstle’s second straight conference crown.

Allegheny Head Coach Bill Ross was named NCAC Coach of the Year in both the men’s and women’s divisions. The NCAC Newcomer of the Year for the men was freshman Chris Carrier (Lyndhurst, Ohio/Brush) of Allegheny, who was 21st in a time of 26:49. The women’s NCAC Newcomer of the Year was freshman Christina McNamara (Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greeley) of Kenyon, who ran second in the meet in a time of 18:54.
