Posted November 27 2000, 01:44 pm Posted by: Ryan Maurer Wittenberg University's football team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III playoffs for the first time since 1988 last Saturday with a 32-21 victory over Hanover College at Edwards-Maurer Field. That earned the Tigers, champions of the North Coast Athletic Conference and the No. 2 seed in the North Region, a date with Mount Union College, the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, this weekend.
Tickets for Saturday's much-anticipated game hosted by Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio will be available in three pre-sale sessions in the lobby of the HPER Center on Wittenberg's campus. The first pre-sale will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday (just prior to the Wittenberg men's basketball game versus Cedarville). The second will be during halftime of the game. And the third is scheduled for Wednesday from 4-6 p.m.
Another way to reserve seats has been established by Mount Union's athletic department. Starting Tuesday, anyone wanting to reserve seats for the game can call Mount Union at 330-821-6759. You will need to provide a credit card number, and then pay cash at the gate on game day.
Pressbox reserved seats cost $6 and general reserved seats are going for $5. Students with ID can get into the game for $3, but they must buy the more expensive tickets to sit in those special sections of the stadium.
Tickets will also be on sale the day of the game at Mount Union. School officials are expecting a standing room only crowd (but do not expect to have to cut off ticket sales). For the best seats, it may be advisable to buy tickets during the pre-sale sessions.
This is a big week for Wittenberg athletic teams, and WBLY (1600 AM) will be there to cover much of it. The station's broadcasts can be found on the radio dial at 1600 AM, and they can also be accessed on the Internet at Wittenberg University's athletics web site.
Tonight's women's basketball game at Baldwin-Wallace, the No. 1 ranked team in the country, will be called by Scott Leo. Game time is 7 p.m.
On Tuesday, the men's basketball game against Cedarville at the HPER Center will be called by regular play-by-play voice Marty Bannister. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, the women's team opens NCAC action at Earlham. That game will not be broadcast.
The weekend promises a lot of dramatic action, and followers can again find the action on the radio or the web. First, the football team's showdown against Mount Union can be heard beginning at noon. Marty Bannister, former Wittenberg standout Xan Smith and Scott Leo will be on hand for the call. Then at 7:30 p.m., the men's basketball game against Thomas More at the HPER Center will hit the airwaves with Dave Williams behind the mike. | ||
