Wittenberg Football Team Ranked Seventh
in Two Preseason Publications

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg University football team, which returns 16 starters from last year's 11-2 team, once again has experts believing they have the talent to make a run at a national championship. Both Street and Smith's College Football Preview 2002 and Lindy's 2002 National College Football Preview gave the Tigers a preseason ranking of seventh.

Two members of the Wittenberg football team also received preseason recognition from Lindy's. Both senior center Adam McClain (Danville Ind./Community) and senior defensive lineman Allen D'Andrea (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) were named to the preseason All-Division III second team. Street & Smith's names only a first team, and no Tigers were named to that squad.

Wittenberg, which was the highest ranked team in the North Coast Athletic Conference in either poll and is seeking an unprecedented fifth straight NCAC title, opens the 2002 season at home versus Albion College at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 7.
