SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Wittenberg sophomore Skip Ivery added yet another award to his already impressive resume with his selection to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District IV College Division Men's Track/Cross County Team.

Ivery, a management major from Groveport, Ohio, is the beneficiary of his second academic/athletic award in as many months. In April he was named as a 2002 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar by Black Issues in Higher Education for his efforts in both football and track and field. Ivery, valedictorian of his senior class at Groveport-Madison High School, has accumulated a 3.84 grade point average so far at Wittenberg. He is also a recipient of a Gates Millennium Scholarship.

In his second year of track and field, Ivery helped lead the men's track and field team to its first outdoor NCAC championship since 1997 by winning the 110-meter high hurdles and finishing third in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. The 110-meter high hurdles championship came at the heels of winning the event at the All-Ohio Championships in April, where he was the first Wittenberg track athlete to qualify provisionally for the NCAA Division III championship, thus earning him NCAC Track and Field Runner of the Week for his efforts. Ivery has also won the 100-meter indoor high hurdles NCAC championship each of the last two seasons.

The fall of 2001 also showcased Ivery's speed, as he hauled in 42 receptions for 451 yards and three touchdowns, second on the team - a team that went 11-2, recorded another NCAC championship, and advanced all the way to the National Quarterfinals before falling to eventual champion Mount Union.
