Wittenberg Sweeps Road Doubleheader Against Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio - It was just what the doctor ordered. After a brutal early-season schedule that included four nationally ranked opponents, the Wittenberg Tigers traveled to Wilmington on Tuesday and swept a pair of games against the Quakers of the Ohio Athletic Conference, 8-0 and 8-2.
The Tigers played their best back-to-back games in terms of defense and pitching, making just two errors in 13 innings spanning the two games. The Tiger pitchers, senior Norah Gillam in Game 1 and freshman Taryn Hensel in Game 2, allowed just five hits and no walks in the two games.
Gillam went a complete six innings in the opener to gain her second win of the season. While Hensel garnered her first collegiate win.
The Tigers banged out 11 hits in the first game, led by sophomore Lucy Huelsman and her best day in the Red & White. She knocked in four runs on three hits in the game. In addition, senior Ashley Lands finished with two hits, three runs scored and two stolen bases from her leadoff spot in the lineup, freshman Sarah Fetters went 2-for-3 and Gillam rounded things out with a pair of hits and runs batted in.
In Game 2, Hensel went the distance for her first win of the season, allowing one earned run on three hits and no walks. Hensel had a perfect game goin into the bottome of the fifth. Sophomore Grace Wigton went 3-for-4 to lead the offense. Fetters went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, Huelsman added two more hits and sophomore Meghan Campbell chipped in with two runs scored.
