Tigers Wrap Up 8-2 Homestand With Sweep Of Heidelberg

Cameron Catalfu
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers put the finishing touches on an 8-2 homestand with a sweep of visiting Heidelberg by scores of 6-4 and 6-1 Sunday at Dillahunt Field.

The Tigers hit the halfway point of the 2007 season with a 13-7 record, and they will finally head out for a true road game Tuesday at Mount St. Joseph.

Offense carried the day in the opener as freshman Cameron Catalfu (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) hit a grand slam in the fourth inning. She drove in five runs on the day, while junior Sarah Fetters (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) continued her torrid hitting atop the lineup by scoring a pair of runs.

That was enough for sophomore Rachael Hatcher (West Carrollton, Ohio/West Carrollton), who allowed an uncharacteristic 10 hits but still picked up her eighth victory of the season.

In the nightcap, the emergence of senior pitcher Grace Wigton (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Christian) continued as she won her fourth game of the homestand. It wasn't a thing of beauty as Wigton allowed 11 hits, but errorless defense behind her and just one walk in the game was key to stranding nine Heidelberg runners in the complete-game win.

Offensively, the Tigers played with the lead for one of the few times this season, scoring six runs in the first two innings. The key blow was a three-run homer by Fetters, backed by a pair of RBI singles from senior Lucy Huelsman (Wellington, Ohio/Wellington).
