The wins improved Wittenberg to 22-10 overall, including a record of 17-5 since returning from the team's annual Spring Break trip. More importantly, the Tigers moved to 7-3 in the NCAC and within a doubleheader sweep of Oberlin on Senior Recognition Day at Wittenberg's Dillahunt Field of clinching a berth in the annual four-team NCAC Tournament.
In the opener, the Tigers fell behind early but rallied with a run in the third inning and a six-spot in the fifth. As usual, the Tigers spread the wealth offensively as eight of the nine hitters in the lineup collected at least one base knock. Senior Lucy Huelsman (Wellington, Ohio/Wellington) drove in two runs, while junior Nicole Ottavi (Columbus, Ohio/Whetstone) had a pair of hits and a team season-high three stolen bases.
The big inning earned a fourth straight win for freshman pitcher Brooke Boswell (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield). That wouldn't have been possible, however, if not for the outstanding relief work provided by senior Grace Wigton (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Christian), who tossed 2.1 scoreless, allowing just one baserunner while facing eight hitters.
The nightcap was a lopsided affair as sophomore pitcher Rachael Hatcher (West Carrollton, Ohio/West Carrollton) tossed a one-hitter in five innings. The game was stopped by the run rule thanks to a 12-hit attack, keyed by junior Amy Myser (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) with three runs batted in and Wigton with three runs scored.
