Wittenberg Doubles Up On Wins On Season Opening Day

Sarah Fetters

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Wittenberg softball started the 2008 season off on the right foot Sunday, earning two big wins over spring break opponents in Kissimmee, Florida. The Tigers took down Beloit by a score of 7-1, and moved past Chatham in a 9-0 win.

Against Chatham, senior shortstop Sarah Fetters (Woodhaven, Mich./Maumee (Ohio)) led the Tigers with three RBI while sophomore starting pitcher Brooke Boswell (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) threw four perfect innings, including seven strikeouts, to keep the Tigers on top.

In the day's early game versus Beloit, it was junior pitcher Rachael Hatcher (West Carrollton, Ohio/West Carrollton) who took home a solid performance from the mound, throwing six scoreless innings. In the fourth inning, sophomore Haley Gerken (Logan, Ohio/Logan) pinch hit for sophomore catcher Emily Rudman (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette), and rocketed a triple, scoring two runs in the process.

The spring break action continues Monday against Methodist and Wartburg.
