Tigers Play Extra to Earn Road Split With Gators

MEADVILLE, Pa. - With each ensuing conference meeting carrying additional consequence towards a Tiger berth into North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) postseason play, the Wittenberg Tigers showed their grit as they battled out a road split with Allegheny. The Red & White took Game 1 in 10 innings, topping the host Gators 2-1, before falling 3-2 in the nightcap.

In a battle of attrition to open the day, senior Rachael Hatcher (West carrollton, Ohio/West Carrollton) demonstrated a rubber arm in a complete game - all ten innings worth - to pick up the win. Her eight-hitter kept the Tigers in the game before the offense struck in the top of the 10th on a Maranda Moore (Willard, Ohio/Willard) unearned run to steal the win.

Game 2 was not quite as kind to the visitors, as Allegheny returned the favor with a two-run rally in the bottom of the sixth to take the split. A three-hit day for senior Julie Ziegler (Sandusky, Ohio/Perkins), including an RBI in the evening contest, highlighted the Tiger offense.

A Wednesday, April 22 date with Kenyon looms large for Head Coach Becky Hall as her team searches for a return to the NCAC Tournament. Their current conference mark sits at 4-4 as they meet the Ladies for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader.
